Commuting is too hard

You know commuting is too hard when you need a helicopter. Today I received the greatest marketing e-mail from Delta Airlines.

Hello Mr. Estes,

Faster just became easier.

You can now book US Helicopter rides—which provide an eight-minute trip between John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Manhattan—via delta.com, our Reservation phone lines and our other ticketing options.

Book your ‘copter ride today for only $159*, or it’s complimentary if you purchase an eligible BusinessElite® ticket. And as a SkyMiles® member, you can earn 500 miles for each booking. (*Additional taxes/fees/restrictions apply. See below for details.)

Then, hop on one of the many weekday flights between JFK’s Terminal 3 and the Downtown Manhattan Heliport at Wall Street (JRB) or the Midtown East 34th Street Heliport (TSS). When traveling to JFK from Manhattan, pick up your boarding pass and check your bags at the heliport. There’s also TSA screening there, so you can skip the airport lines.

Visit delta.com for all your travel needs—near and far. Take advantage of our Best Fare Guarantee and book your next flight (while avoiding up to $25 in booking fees!). You also can reserve hotel rooms or car rentals and sign up for real-time flight information. Then visit our Delta Blog to see “under the wing” and behind the scenes as we share stories on ideas, changes and our people.

Here is a screen shot of the e-mail too

What do you think? Would you do it?

Settling down in New York

I am all moved in New York, actually New Jersey.  Since the view from the balcony of my room is Lower Manhattan I will just say New York City.

View of Lower Manhattan from my Apartment Balcony

I started work this past Monday, the press release still hasn’t come out, today was my first full day of work without doing administrative orientation and only have one more step to go before orientation can be called officially over.  I really like the people from all over the world I work with. The people I have met are so nice that it goes against everything I have ever known about New Yorkers.  To say the least my first few days in New York have been great due to the people.  I feel welcome where ever I go.

More pictures and updates are to come later.  Hopefully the next pictures will come from something besides the camera on my phone.

Moving to New York

Earlier tonight I made this announcement public with a mass e-mail…

As many of you know I have been in search of jobs all over the country. I found a fit on Wall Street in New York. Kind of hard to believe this small town southern guy would ever move to a city that has more people than his home state. I took a position as an analyst with a firm at the corner of Wall Street and Broadway. Four years ago I wouldn’t have ever thought I would live outside the south.

I am really excited about the opportunities the new firm offers. (I "ain’t" saying who or what until the press release comes out!) The rest of this week I am going to be packing up and looking for housing in New York. That is where you come in… If you have a friend/family/associate in New York drop them a note and say "Hey! I know a guy that is moving to NY and looking for an apartment. Do you know of any vacancies?"

Stay tuned to my seldomly updated blog for the announcement on my press release.http://www.chris-estes.com

Regards,

Chris Estes

When I moved to Washington, DC I only planned for a three month stay before I moved home. Well it has been two years and I’m going further north. Even though I am moving further north doesn’t make me miss Alabama any less.  Alabama is my home and always will be. I have been living quite the portable life since leaving, though I can’t move in two suitcases or my Honda anymore, I do plan to come home one day. Look at this way, at least when you come to New York you will have a tour guide and a floor to crash.

Friendships or Contacts? - Social Media

Blogging and social media sites are at the center of most topics in the internet marketing world. Not a day goes by that a hot new article at Sphinn (Internet Marketing News & Forums Discussion) doesn’t relate to social media. With an unlimited amount of social media options, inevitably you will make friends. The question that perplexes me most about these social media friends are they just contacts? or are they really friends?

Over the past few months of being an active contributing blogger I have made hundreds of contacts. Are any of them really my friends? A definition of a friend can loosely be defined by anyone. In my opinion a friends is someone you can count on in a bind? Trusting people is one of the hardest things for anyone to do and especially for me.

I have thought about the psychology and risk of it all… People hiding behind an avatar. People covering up their personality flaws. Someone being out right dishonest. People lying and being malicious.

Being new to the contributing blog world I have yet to be mislead. But a part of me wants to fall back on what my momma always said: “Don’t Talk to Strangers”. When people “friend me” I am always hesitant. If I don’t add you don’t be alarmed, I am just doing what my momma told me.

I am perplexed by my new found “friends” and if they are really more than just contacts or avatars on the internet.
