Presidential Honeymoon Period Over

January 20th, 2009 No comments

Obama Barack PresidentAs President Barack Obama gets ready for his first night in the White House the Honeymoon is ending. Wednesday begins his first full day as President.  Obama’s Presidency begins in a time of Economic Turmoil and trying times internationally.  It is unlikely that he will get a long honeymoon that has been extended to presidents past.

Pres. Obama inherits a two front war in the Middle East.  A weakened economy full of scandal and turmoil that directly effects the falling employment rates.  Many people from around the world will be  looking to the Leader of The Free World for guidance.

So to spare you the obvious problems that face America lets take a look at days gone by with information from the United Steelworkers Rapid Response.  Only history will tell the legacy of Former George W. Bush today’s stats are dim and perhaps indicative of how history will be written.

Have a Political Yard Sign?

October 29th, 2008 No comments

Do you have a Political Yard Sign in your lawn?  Many cities and communities have strict rules about them.  But what about when someone steals or mangles your right to free speech?

This Austin Texas voter took things into her own hands:

I wonder if she used environmentally safe spray paint?

The article “Woman paints lawn after sign is stolen“:

Woman paints lawn after sign is stolen

No Obama sign? One woman spraypainted her lawn

AUSTIN (KXAN) – After the Barack Obama sign was stolen from her front yard, Shannon Bennett painted a more permanent one with 12 cans of spray-paint and her front lawn as the canvas. “I just wanted to be able to say who I support, without being censored, which is how I felt when my sign was taken,” said Bennett.

She painted a large, red, white, and blue symbol in the front yard, using her old Obama sign as an inspiration. “The signs cost money and it’s coming into my front yard and taking away my freedom of expression,” said Bennett. She said she has not received any complaints from neighbors and the makeshift sign has been in the yard for a week. In an election year, sometimes driveways and sidewalks become battle lines, but not in Bennett’s Northwest Austin neighborhood.

“I looked out and I was surprised to see it one morning,” said neighbor Elaine Goessling. “And I am a Republican, but I was really impressed with how pretty is it.”

Bennett said the Obama signs have been stolen from the yards of her neighbors, as well. “They might think it’s extreme, but I think it’s extreme to come into my yard and take something that belongs to me, so I wanted to express myself.”

“W” The Movie

October 22nd, 2008 1 comment

W The Movie LogoI saw Oliver Stone’s “W” tonight starring Josh Brolin as George W. Bush.  The movie takes a trip through one of the most controversial figures in Presidential History.  Weather you are “W” (pronounced “dub-ya”) fan or not you can not deny the role of the 42nd presidents role in history.

Oliver Stone’s movie more or less portrayed George Bush’s life history bringing out some of the dark and happy days in his life.  Through out the movie alternated between a flashbacks of recent times and younger days of George W. Bush’s life.

I went into the movie expecting fireworks and slight, neither of which was present.  The movie was intended for viewers to draw their own conclusions.  The film certainly had its fair share of comedy and humor.  But, something it didn’t have was a true point.  The movie bordered on being a documentary.  For those people like myself that were expecting a Michael Moore style Fahrenheit 9/11 you will be disappointed and those looking for entertainment will also be disappointed.  If you have been conscious at any point in the last 8 years already know the story.

Would I go see the movie again?  No.  Do I consider it disappointing?  Yes.  Is it worth the price of the movie ticket price?  No.

Ultimately the movie was virtually a waste of time.  I have seen George W. Bush documentaries online that are more worthy of being in the theater.  The only reason this movie ever saw the silver screen is because of Oliver Stone.  Clearly this is no JFK Movie.  This movie probably will not make it to cable TV and with little chance of being a success.

What would have made this movie a success?  Easy, take a side and set off fireworks.  Choose either to highlight George W. Bush’s success or failures.  Spark fires and don’t play to the center.  The movie premier date was great for fireworks and success.  Just like tabloid magazine, “trash sells”.

Check out the Trailer for the movie:

What do you think of the Movie?  Will you see it?  What do you think?
